Year 3 - Lions & Tigers

We hope you all had a lovely summer. In Lions you will find Mrs Larson, Mrs Hoppins, Mrs Searle, Mrs Verncombe and Miss Godden and in Tigers Mrs Lukins, Mrs Weall, Mrs Addicott, Mrs Sellick and Miss Hoare. If you have any concerns feel free to catch us either before or after school.

Children do not need to come into class before school. They can keep hold of their book bags, lunch boxes and drinks until they come in at 8.45am.

Your child may wish to have a snack at break and we encourage them to have a healthy one. No sweets please. Also ensure your child has a water bottle for class and separate drink in their lunchbox.

Full kit is required to be in school all week as there may be changes to the timetable. Children will have PE with Mr Irish on Wednesdays. Details about swimming lessons will follow.

Year 3 Curriculum Overview - Autumn 2017

Children will develop their keyboard and word processing skills. They will also discuss e-safety.

Art and DT

We will design and make Roman chariots. We will design and make pop-up cards.

We will learn the story of Lazy Jack and write a story with a character that has a flaw. Linked to the Romans, we will write a non-chronological report. Guided reading will take place daily in small groups. Children will start to work on the year 3 spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG) expectations. Spellings will be set and tested each Tuesday. The English homework will be to learn the spellings.

This term the children will develop their knowledge of plants. They will do observational drawings of plants and flowers and be able to identify what a plant needs to grow. After half term they will look at the body, skeleton and muscles.

Book bags must be brought in each day. We encourage children to read every night, even if only a couple of pages. They will be rewarded for their hard work so please write a comment in their reading record books (and sign every day). Books not handed in, or signed, will be recorded as the child having not read.

We will learn about the Romans and why they invaded Britain. The children will have a visit from a Roman soldier.

After half term we will explore the angry earth and find out about volcanoes and earthquakes.

Our maths focus for this term is place value and addition and subtraction. Children will continue to learn their times tables (3x, 4x and 8x) to ensure they are confident. They will do weekly tables tests. Maths homework will be to practise times tables at home.

In RE the children will explore what is important to them and compare to what Christians believe.

Year 3 celebrated a fake wedding to learn more about how Christians celebrate weddings. We went to church and enjoyed songs and prayers. Mrs Searle made us all cake for the wedding breakfast.
